Sampurna Appeals To The Residents Of Rohini To Boycott Single Use Plastics

“Switching to eco-friendly cotton bags will help us to build a healthy society.”
-Dr Shobha Vijender
Founder, Sampurna

New Delhi, July 20. Sampurna organised an event in Hill Apartments, Sector-13, Rohini to boycott Single Use Plastics (SUP). The event started with an oath taking ceremony conducted by the Sampurna Founder President Dr Shobha Vijender. The residents of Hill Apartments, including women, senior citizens and children, actively participated in this program. The residents took the oath to boycott the use of SUP. The slogan of 'Remove plastic, save environment' was chanted afterwards.

Dr Shobha Vijender addressed the gathering and described the severe harm caused by plastic. She also appealed to everyone to ensure their participation with Sampurna in making their surrounding area plastic free. She urged everyone to completely boycott all items made of single use plastic like straws, glasses, plates, spoons, cups and polythene bags etc. On this occasion, Dr Shobha Vijender asked the women present to improve the environment. She suggested the women plant saplings from the melon seeds, green onions, sweet potato, ginger, red chilli etc. which are generally found in the kitchen waste. These plants can be planted in a flowerpot recycled from waste or broken items found in the household like an empty glass bottle, broken ceramics, metal cups etc. This will not only reduce garbage but make our environment greener on an individual level. This approach was appreciated by all the ladies present. As an incentive to boost morale and participation, Sampurna will give out prizes to the best plant and flower pot on the 10th August.

Dr Vijender said that Sampurna has been making efforts to save the environment for many years now. She informed the crowd about cotton bags that Sampurna makes from recycled minimally used old clothes. The bags were distributed among the people for free. The gathering was also informed about the organic soap being made in a project in Sampurna led by Sampurna volunteer Smita Kaushik.

Ms. Smita Kaushik, Mrs. Monika and Mrs. Sonia Bansal, Mrs. Nirmala Chahal were present on this occasion.
